I was in my usual spot on the couch, pretending to watch a nature show with the kids {we called it science for the day}. I was playing on Pinterest attempting to multitask and failing miserably, as usual.
Tidbits of information on rhinos and bugs and turtles bounced around in my head as I half-listened. The show was covering multiple different animals and honestly it was hard to keep up. Then again, I wasn’t really paying attention.
As I was clicking through another Pin, probably to see a crochet tutorial I’ll never use, a few of those tidbits started repeating themselves.
snakes cannot see or hear very well…
The little crocheted flowers were totally calling my name.
they use their tongue to sense their prey …
And that one would make a great Mom-in-law gift!
they smell them out
I stopped looking at tutorials and let the words sink in. They had to be sticking around and bouncing off the inside of my skull for a reason.
God always puts a phrase on repeat when He needs me to really hear it.
Satan isn’t looking at what we do.{snakes can’t see very well}
He isn’t listening to what we say.{snakes can’t hear very well}
Like a snake he is sensing what is in our heart.{they use their tongue to sense their prey. they smell them out}
When our hearts are set on Jesus,
we become Satan’s most sought after prey.
He doesn’t come after me when I’m doing good just for the sake of doing good.
He definitely doesn’t come after me when my heart is selfish despite my seemingly selfless behavior.
He comes after me when I have been earnestly praying and seeking God’s guidance.
He aims his arrows at me when I’m doing something because in my heart I feel called by God to do it.
He senses that my intent and purpose are no longer for my own self but for God.
My good works and good words mean nothing to the snake until he senses that my heart is filled with the Light of Jesus.
It is then that he wants to stop me.
It is then that he senses the threat.
What a comfort to know that while he may still be putting up a fight, it is a battle that has already been won.
*spoiler alert* The snake doesn’t make it.
